Pancake & Waffles

A Street Survival Story with a Sweet Ending in Sight

Pancake was barely more than a pup herself when she was found wandering the streets of Mexico, starving, exhausted, and desperately trying to care for her tiny baby, Waffles. The two of them had been seen for days rummaging through dumpsters, darting between alleyways, and narrowly escaping traffic — living in survival mode with no one to turn to and nowhere safe to sleep.

Pancake, like so many forgotten mama dogs, had likely once belonged to someone. But when her belly swelled with pregnancy, she was abandoned to the streets. Left to fend for herself and her newborn, she did everything she could to protect her baby — shielding him from danger, sharing scraps of food, and never letting him stray too far from her side.

By the time they were rescued, both Pancake and Waffles were frail, flea-ridden, and emotionally shut down. But even then, Pancake’s eyes told the truth — she hadn’t given up hope. She just needed someone to believe in her the way she had always believed in her pup.

Thanks to the efforts of compassionate rescuers and our Boho Dog rescue partners, Pancake and Waffles were brought across the border and given a second chance at life. When they arrived at Boho Rescue Ranch, it was like watching the fog lift. With fresh food, clean water, soft blankets, and the safety of a loving community, their entire energy shifted.

They are survivors, companions, and soft-hearted souls with so much love left to give.

Leilani

When Love Isn’t Enough

Leilani was never unwanted. She was deeply loved. She had a person, a warm bed, and a daily routine filled with belly rubs and ball tosses. She was the kind of dog who curled up at your feet after a long day and looked at you like you were her whole world — because you were.

But California’s housing crisis doesn’t care about love.

When her devoted owner lost their home due to rising rents and no-pet policies, they held on for as long as they could. They tried everything — couch surfing, temporary stays, pleading with landlords. But one by one, the doors closed. And finally, with nowhere left to go and tears in their eyes, they did the one thing they swore they’d never do:

They surrendered Leilani.

Not to a shelter — that would have shattered them. Instead, through heartbreak and sobs, they reached out to a local rescue, begging someone, anyone, to take her in and keep her safe.

That call saved her life.

She was taken in just in time — before she would’ve been out on the street, confused, vulnerable, and alone. Thanks to the kindness of a few incredible people, Leilani found her way to Boho Rescue Ranch, where we welcomed her with love, fresh air, and a second chance.

And once she knew she was safe? She lit up the whole ranch.

Leilani is young and vivacious — bursting with puppy energy and a tail that never stops wagging. She’s playful, curious, and absolutely obsessed with playing ball. She’ll chase it across the yard a hundred times if you let her, leaping and bounding like she’s trying to catch joy itself.

Her spirit is big. Her loyalty is fierce. And her capacity for love is endless.

She’ll be your shadow on walks, your co-pilot on road trips, and your best friend for life. Her heart has been broken once, but she hasn’t let it break her spirit.

Kauai

From the Wild to the Ranch

Kauai wasn’t just abandoned — he was left to survive.

At barely a year old, this beautiful fawn Doberman was spotted running wild through the rural countryside, terrified and alone. With deep cuts across his face, scrapes on his legs, and exhaustion in every stride, it was clear he had been chased — likely by coyotes. He was running for his life.

No collar. No chip. No one looking for him.
Just a young dog with golden eyes and a desperate will to survive.

But the universe was watching.

A good Samaritan — someone who had heard of Boho Dog Rescue Ranch — spotted Kauai and knew he needed help fast. It took time and patience to earn his trust, but even then, his sweetness shone through. Despite everything he’d been through, Kauai still believed in people.

He was brought to the safety of Boho Rescue Ranch, where his healing began — not just his wounds, but his heart.

Now, Kauai is thriving.

His cuts have healed, his spirit has returned, and his joy is infectious. He’s strong and athletic with the energy of a young dog who’s finally safe and free to play. But when he slows down, his softness comes through.

He’ll look right into your eyes — long and soulful — like he’s searching for someone to truly see him.

Despite his size, Kauai still carries around his blanket like a security token, a tender reminder of his puppy heart.

He’s eager to learn, always watching with those glowing amber eyes, ready to impress you with his next move. Whether it’s picking up a new command or mastering the art of the cuddle, this boy is all heart and high vibes.

Cowboy

Born to Run, Ready to Belong

Cowboy was running loose through the dry desert heat, scavenging through dumpsters under the scorching 90-degree sun — scared, hungry, and alone. Fireworks had gone off that weekend, and whether he bolted out of fear or was cruelly dumped afterward, we may never know. What we do know is that no one came for him.

Picked up and brought to an overcrowded LA shelter, Cowboy sat there — strong, silent, and waiting — as the days ticked by. No collar. No chip. No flyers. No calls. Just another unclaimed dog on borrowed time.

But Cowboy was never meant to be a statistic.

With his time up and his spirit still unbroken, Boho Dog Rescue Ranch stepped in. And the moment his paws hit the ranch soil, something clicked.

He was home — at least, for now.

Your Right-Hand Man

Cowboy is everything his name suggests: strong, spunky, and fiercely loyal. He’s got a confident alpha energy and definitely prefers to be the only male dog on the property — this sheriff likes to be the one in charge. But under that rugged charm is a warm-hearted companion with soft brown eyes that melt into yours once he trusts you.

He’s got the soul of a wanderer and the heart of a partner. Whether he’s trotting beside you on trail duty, keeping an eye on the ranch, or lying in the shade with a watchful gaze, Cowboy is a true right-hand man.

He doesn’t ask for much — just leadership, respect, and the kind of home where he can be both protector and beloved companion.

Cedar

A Survivor with a Gentle Soul

Cedar was just four months old when his story nearly ended before it had a chance to begin.

Born into a litter of eight fearful puppies in the Coachella Valley, Cedar was dumped at an overcrowded shelter where he landed on the kill list — not because he was broken, but because the system was. Thankfully, on Easter Sunday, his story took a turn. A compassionate rescue stepped in, saving all eight siblings just in time.

One by one, his brothers and sisters found their forever homes. But Cedar? He needed a little more time.

Quiet and sensitive, Cedar didn’t open up right away. He was shy, unsure of people, and overwhelmed by change. But slowly, patiently, with daily love and space to decompress, Cedar began to bloom.

Now, at a year and a half, Cedar is a stunning hound–cattle dog mix with soulful eyes and a heart of gold. He’s still a little reserved at first — the kind of dog who observes quietly before he leaps in — but once he trusts you, his playful, sweet nature shines.

He adores the outdoors. He loves running free. He’s wonderful with other dogs, curious, and incredibly smart — this boy taught himself how to use the dog door without anyone showing him. He’s food motivated (hello, training wins!), crate trained, potty trained, and becoming more confident by the day.

Cedar Is Ready for the Right Match

Cedar doesn’t need a loud house or constant attention. He needs someone who sees beyond the surface. Someone who understands that trust takes time, but when it comes, it’s everything.

He sleeps through the night, enjoys gentle companionship, and would thrive in a calm home where he can continue to grow into the dog he was always meant to be.

His story is one of quiet resilience, steady healing, and second chances. Cedar is ready for his — and it could be you!
